Benjy chapter
Benjy is a 33 year old who is mentally challenged. He is not capable of logical thinking and this shows in his chapter because at parts it can be confusing and doesn't seem to make sense. He is more of a sensor than a thinker so most of this chapter is a record of sensory impressions he remembers. The members of his family are constantly required to watch over him because he is unable to watch over himself. He is a member of the family but sometimes can be seen as a burden because he isn't capable of much as he can't speak or do much of anything for himself. There aren't many things that remain consistent in his life even though he is a fan of order because it helps him to better understand things. Since he is unable to communicate change can be difficult for him because he is unable to communicate his feelings about it. I believe he plays a symbolic role in the book. He seems to Be a Christlike figure because he as Christ did suffers silently.

I completely agree that Benjy does not like change because he is incapable of comprehending and expressing his feeling about it. I did not think of him this way before. Through his many years, he has come to value the precious few consistent items in his life, and when they are changed he cannot cope properly. I also like the idea of Benjy as a Christ like figure. He takes on the burden of the Compson's, though he played no real role in its downfall, and he suffered in silence.
